Meadow in the Making

For this project, the goal was to create the feeling of stepping directly into a living meadow—full of movement, texture, and life. Rather than maintaining a traditional lawn, we designed a tapestry-style planting of native species that support pollinators and wildlife while offering beauty and seasonal interest throughout the year.

The planting palette includes drifts of Echinacea, Switchgrass, Little Bluestem, and Carex pensylvanica, layered with Lavender to add fragrance, structure, and soft waves of color. Together these plants create a dynamic landscape that moves with the wind and shifts through the seasons, echoing the rhythms of a natural meadow.

In addition to the sunny meadow plantings, we also carved out a shaded garden space, creating contrast within the landscape and allowing for a more diverse range of plants and habitats while being low maintenance.

This garden is still in its early stages—truly a meadow in the making—but already the space is beginning to transform into a vibrant, ecologically supportive landscape that will continue to fill in, weave together, and flourish over time.
